Okay, it's no particular holiday, but there is reason to celebrate. I GET TO FLY HOME TOMORROW! Yup, I'm still in Southeast Asia because I missed my flight and it's been a couple of days filled with calling different airlines, going to the airport to try and fly on standby and waiting around for the American branch of the office to open--which is only after the Filipino branch is already closed because there's a 12 hour time difference.

Who knew it would be this hard to stop being on vacation?

Anyway, the blogging itch got the better of me and I'm in an internet cafe with some time to kill so that's why you're getting this update. Oh, and this awesome card from Kateisgreat80. It costs $2, which is approximately 90 Filipino pesos.

we'd like to nominate the brains behind the scherenschnitte blog as a person most in need of an etsy store IMMEDIATELY. She uses scherenschnitte (according to wikipedia: (shear-n-SNIT- a) which means "scissor cuts" in German is the art of papercutting design) to create these beautiful things. But the anxiety I usually feel the day or so before I leave for a trip kicked in and I stopped procrastinating and started packing. And whoo-boy, I must say, there's nothing better than a comprehensive to-pack list (the bougie step-sister of the "to-do" list).

My list ended up on the back of an envelope, but if I had time I would have used this fancy listin' paper. (It even has velcro on the back so you can stick it to important places.)

And hey, the listin' pleasure doesn't stop at trips. These "to due" lists come in varieties for all sorts of situations.

The one pictured above is part of a 6 card set (for $14). And hey, the Francophile in us can't help but point out that she used vintage pages from a French book. (There's nothing we love more than reading French text and proving to ourselves that we still remember everything our high school French teacher taught us. Merci beaucoup, Madame Antoniak.)

there are tons of things to swoon over at bell'occhio but, so as not to overwhelm you with beauty (it is only monday, after all), here's a theme: scalloped edges. they make paper look like little confectionery treats. and we're especially loving the box design of the petit victronel cards. 24 cartes for $25 gift wrap, 6 sheets for $6 $8, but it doesn't say for how many cards, 12 for $6 for the big ones, 24 for $6 for the teensy ones

okay, we have a problem. we know we saw the amazing paper cityscapes of Nicholas Kolya on someone's blog, but now we can't remember whose (that'll teach us not to properly label things in our reader). does this look familiar to anyone? we will happily append this post if anyone can tell us where we saw it this morning.

anyway, back to Nicholas:

Kolya's newest projects involve painstakingly hand-sliced sheets of A3 paper and various dolla-dolla billz from around the world. His A3 Cities series portrays the feel of various cities in simple profile form with no color or third dimension. The International Currency project is a reflection upon the circulation of money and asks the various bills where they've been. You can actually snag Kolya's A3 pieces on Etsy for $40 a piece.

We just have to say: Louise from Cake Journal is a genius. Look at this amazing yarn cake. The cake receiver (something I always want to be) owns a yarn shop so what could be more perfect? after we sang the praises of papermuse's beautiful star books, the muse herself pointed us in the direction of the website for HGTV's show, Crafters Coast to Coast. the site has a bunch of different crafts, including a whole section on things you can do with leftover paper of every kind. if you try out any of their instructions, take some pics and let us know how/if they worked out.

Because, well, we're not getting married any time soon, and some of the wedding stationery one finds out there can sometimes feel way too over the top. BUT, we had to share this because it was just such a darn neat idea: a vintage typewriter guestbook.

Instead of making your guests write in a glorified journal in their own handwriting (who can read that, anyway?) you can leave an old typewriter with sheets of paper ready and waiting.

The original idea was from Martha Stewart so all we can say is, "We bow down to you, oh crafty queen of perfect."

Of course, our friends would probably type a bunch of swears and inappropriate jokes, but hey, 'tis life isn't it?

we're totally eating up the eclectic look of this 3-ring binder by mishamj. $45 does seem like a lot for a binder, but then we read the artist's description of it and suddenly, well, we might need this. need it like we need cookies for lunch on a rainy day.

This organizer was made from an old novel which I gutted, reinforced and installed with a size 4, 6-ring organizer spine. All my items are built around a quote from a family member. This one reads, "I'll keep munchies in the freezer and I'll have a chauffer on call." An invitation from my sister-in-law. The inside covers have two canvas pockets for business cards and receipts. The clasp is made from a snap and a pleather strap with daisy embellishments. The spine is covered in fabric from an old wall calendar that is glued and then hand sewn to the covers. It's a darling book that will definitely get noticed.

if we were in philly, best believe we'd pay a visit to the Naked Paper exhibit at Tower Gallery. The show features the work of over 20 different artists using as their medium...paper! it seems like a really interesting exhibit. the gallery's website shows a small selection of the pieces on display, including mixed media collages, intricate paper cutting, and installations. on display until 24 august.

even though he's been back from new orleans for over a week, the two postcards that my boyfriend sent me arrived only yesterday. i must be rubbing off on him at least a little, because look at which ones he chose. not exactly your typical brightly colored, cheesy postcards, are they? they're called miniARTures, a sorbet-colored photo of your vacation spot (they're only available for new orleans, st. augustine, and key west) with a little white paper frame around it. said frame is sturdy enough; aside from the usual post grime, these held up pretty well. $2.50 each

as I live and breathe! what should show up at my door but a real, paper letter from the paper mistress herself, ms. donovan beeson of 16sparrows and the letter writers alliance. I've seen these vintage stamp envelopes on podpodpost before, but it's very cool to actually see one in person. and looky what I got, an LWA membership card. would i be a total dork if i laminated it?it was a tough choice, but i think I'm going to write back to her on this card. it's from egg press, but i can't find it on their site. isn't it a good one, though? love it!

these cards are both $3 each and are our favorites from bellabella's ephemera collection. the illustrations are sweet and simple and we like the sassy smarm of the sailor one. and even though only one of us (it ain't me, kids) has a black belt in early 90's love songs, we can both acknowledge that some situations call for a little sentimentality.

One of our oldest friends used to do puff paint craftery in elementary school. It was pretty awesome. She made all her own t-shirts with iron on designs and puff paint. Oh yeah.

Does anyone use these things anymore? Also, we have to admit. We love the name of these: Dong-A Popcorn Puffy Paint (10 pens for $12, from Jetpens.com).
